International and local education

While believing in hands-on learning we recognize the importance of a theoretical foundation. Whereas some of the theoretical education takes place locally the core of the tuition is the 4 international modules at the Maersk Shipping Academy.

The international M.I.S.E. curriculum is an array of subjects that are not directly related but are interconnected through a common learning path.

Every 6 months we gather all our trainees for what we refer to as the M.I.S.E. modules. All 4 modules have duration of 14 days and are currently conducted in Copenhagen.

At the Maersk Shipping Academy we separate the tuition into A.P. Moller - Maersk competencies and generic competencies. The competencies specific to our company include corporate culture, transportation and logistics whereas the generic competencies encompass law, economics, presentation techniques, project management, business behaviour, investment, etc. These are all competencies that we feel are of paramount importance in order to become a manager in an international company.

All professors are hand-picked and the curriculum is undergoing constant changes to prepare our trainees for the challenges of tomorrow. We believe in changing the teaching-methods to fit the purpose and hence we take advantage of class-room teaching and case-studies as well as the outdoor-classroom while always maintaining a focus on stretching your learning curve.

Our philosophy is that one should learn not for the sake of learning but for the sake of using. Our trainees learn how to learn.
