Expatriation

In our international organization there are many different career paths. Our trainees decide which path they want to follow. The majority of our trainees opt for an international experience and decide to become expatriated following the M.I.S.E. Programme.

Having completed the two years as M.I.S.E. trainees our trainees become M.I.S.E. graduates and have the opportunity to become expatriated to one of the more than 125 countries in which the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group operate. In order to facilitate the process of becoming expatriated we maintain a job-portal on the Intranet. It contains specific job postings that are suitable for further development and for challenging our graduates. The suitable candidate will be selected based on performance appraisals and grades from the M.I.S.E. Programme as well as the motivation for applying for the position.

M.I.S.E. graduates are not selected for a specific expatriate position because of their qualifications at the time and whether they possess expertise in a specific area. An expatriation is yet another learning opportunity for the graduate and a logical continuation of the skills obtained through the M.I.S.E. Programme.

Some graduates opt to apply for jobs based on the geographical location while others decide to direct their efforts at a specific business area. Regardless of the motivation all graduates do, however, have one thing in common. During the two-year stay abroad our M.I.S.E. graduates undergo significant development on both a professional and a personal level.

Following the expatriation the M.I.S.E. graduates return to their countries of origin and share their newly gained knowledge with their local colleagues. In this way M.I.S.E. graduates become knowledge ambassadors and are central in constantly enhancing the local organisation by implementing international best practices.
